Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire at the Tyneside Cinema

I arrived in Newcastle on a glorious March evening….

I took my seat early in the beautiful Tyneside Cinema, which is surely one of the most beautiful cinemas in the North of Midgard.

Before the film began Ben Wheatley and actor Sam Riley introduced the film, with warnings of salty language eheheh!

After the film we were treated to a wonderful question and answer session, which took me back to my time on the High-Rise tour.

After the film I decided to visit the bar, to drink my fill of mead, and behold! Mr Wheatley was himself was meeting with many fans of his work!

We had a wonderful conversation, and I thanked him for travelling so far north upon this tour.

And now I must speak of Free Fire… What a glorious film it is! Aside from the early tense set up scenes, the film is basically one long shoot out. You may ask, “dearest and most glorious Lego Loki, how can a film that is just a shoot out scene hold your interest for 90 minutes?” and to that I would say only this: See the film. It is an amazing mix of humour, violence, music and more!

I have been a long time fan of the mortal Sharlto Copley, but his performance in Free Fire is absolutely hilarious, and there were times that I missed things he said because the audience was laughing so loudly. The whole cast is simply wonderful, and you will be surprised just how much a film about people crawling on a warehouse floor can entertain!

I do not visit Midgardian cinemas often, but I heartily recommend seeing Free Fire. It is a truly wonderful film!
