The Ultimate Battle for Asgard LEGO Set is the second of a range of Thor: Ragnarok LEGO tie in products.
The Set consists of two instruction booklets, three numbered LEGO bags, one unnumbered bag and a set of stickers.
Here I am beginning the build on the spaceship! I very much enjoyed how the colours matched the earlier Arena Clash LEGO set, which featured the same red and combination of 2 shades of blue. The two sets will sit next to each other nicely on any shelf.
The ship is easy to build, but I had a lot of fun creating it. I especially liked how the circular sections of the unnumbered bag fit onto the body of the ship.
And now we move onto one of the most important parts of any film tie in LEGO set – the minifigures!
The Ultimate Battle for Asgard LEGO set also features a Thor minifigure, although in this set rather than swords he features a unique cape, which magnificently represents the shorter, torn cape that Thor wears in the film.
Sadly this cape is also made from the same new cape material, but I will excuse it because of its design.
And here is our first view of Valkyrie! Her body is an incredibly accurate depiction of her film costume, even though it is blue.
Valkyrie also features a cape, but I cannot judge how accurate it is, as her cape has not featured properly in the trailers yet. I shall revisit this feature after the release of the film.
One of my favourite features of the Valkyrie minifigure is the war paint on her face. I feel this is sadly lacking on the Thor figure, but am glad to see it make an appearance here.
Valkyrie’s hair appears to be a new piece, created simply for this figure, but sadly I am not a fan.
I feel that changing her hair piece for a simple bun greatly improves her appearance, and brings her closer to the film character. I still give her very high marks for accuracy, despite my issues with the hairpiece.
Here, at last, is the first Bruce Banner minifigure! Isn’t he magnificent? His design is deceptively simple, but I think he is very cute, despite being the human side of the awful green beast…
Oh no! Bruce Banner has a double sided head, and also features a face in mid transformation into the beast! I must flee!
And now we come to the most incredible part of this set. HELA!
Forgive me if this sounds a little excessive, but LEGO Hela is quite one of the most remarkable minifigures I have ever encountered.
Her body design, even though it has no leg print, is stunning, and her dual sided face is beautiful, but the thing that sets Hela apart from every other LEGO minifigure is her absolutely exquisite helmet.
Her helmet is intricate, and accurately captures the beautiful headdress that Hela wears in both the film, and the comic books.
Her helmet is as beautiful from the back as it is from the front, and even though her cape is the new material, it doesn’t seem as bulky as the other new material capes.
If you held a sceptre to my head and forced me to make one criticism of this figure, I would say that it is a little difficult to remove the helmet once it is on, but even that cannot detract from her beauty.
LEGO Hela is a simply incredible figure, who outshines even the amazing new Ragnarok Hulk. It is worth buying the whole set simply for her!
The Ultimate Battle for Asgard LEGO set also comes with two Berserker minifigures, and their open fanged mouths are quite terrifying!
And now for the final bag…
The beautiful Fenris Wolf.
In the Norse Myths both Hela and Fenris are my children, but I suspect that this will not be the case in the film. Fenris was very entertaining to build, and I particularly like his head, which features glow in the dark eyes.
The set is finally complete!
I found this set an easy, but entertaining build, and I am extremely happy with the final results. The ship is brightly coloured, which sets it apart from previous vehicles that have been included with Marvel LEGO sets. The best part of this set is, of course, the absolutely stunning minifigures. Minor quibbles aside, which can be corrected by swapping out parts, I found them to be extremely accurate in terms of the film’s costuming and atmosphere.
The highlight is the Hela minifigure, and it truly would be worth buying this set simply for her, as she is quite incredible. I highly recommend this set to all fans of LEGO and the Thor Marvel films.
The Ultimate Battle for Asgard LEGO set is available in Europe now from the LEGO shop website, and in the USA in August.
